The Jewel of San Diego

Known for its rugged coastline, La Jolla, pronounced “La Hoy-a,” is one of the most well-known areas in San Diego. Jetting out into the Pacific Ocean, La Jolla is surrounded by three sides of water and backed by the slopes of Mt. Soledad. The upscale village certainly lives up to the nickname of “the jewel” of San Diego.

Scripps Park is a popular spot for picnicking, and La Jolla cove fills the appetite for adventure seekers, from scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking, to stand-up paddle boarding. Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, La Jolla Playhouse, and the Museum of Contemporary Art can be found nearby the village. La Jolla is also home to California University of San Diego, and University Town Center has turned into a hub for upscale shopping and dining with the new concept Nordstrom department store.
