Only a thirty-minute drive away from downtown Austin, Driftwood is a small Texas town that is home to BBQ, wine, and a relaxed lifestyle for retirees. This is a perfect getaway for anyone looking to experience Texas outside the city limits.

Duchman Winery

Drs Lisa and Stan Duchman started Duchman Winery after a trip to Italy and realized they wanted to bring a taste of Tuscany home to Texas. They are known for their dry Italian varietals, beautiful grounds, and event space. Duchman’s Trebbiano is their award-winning white, but you can also enjoy a vast selection of their reds, such as the Docletto or the Sangiovese. Trattoria Lisina, the Italian restaurant next door, is great place to grab a lunch or dinner before you get to the wine tastings.

Driftwood Winery

This small family estate winery has some of the best views in all of Driftwood. The tasting room is nestled atop of a hill that overlooks the beautiful countryside. Although the grounds are sprawling, their tasting room is small, so be prepared to arrive early. Their Cuvee Blanc is a happy accident that has proven to be one of their most popular wines.

Salt Lick BBQ

WIth over 2,000 plates served on a given Saturday, Salt Lick is home to big BBQ plates, a wine cellar, and expansive grounds. This is the perfect place to sit outside, enjoy a bottle of wine (it’s also BYOB), and grab a plate of delicious food made popular by Thurman Roberts, their founder. Try the brisket or pork ribs as well as their unique sauce.

Fall Creek Winery

Located across the street from Salt Lick, Fall Creek hosts a beautiful tasting room with private tables for the perfect wine experience. A tasting here feels more like being welcomed into someone’s private home, and you’ll love the coziness the main room has to offer. Have a big group? You can also book the private tasting room for a more intimate experience. Try a wide variety of wines, including small batch bottles.
