Hilton Hotels offers an amazing package called “Weekend Like A Local” that is available to over 140 North East locations, so when I found out NYC was one of the included cities I had all the reason to pack my bags and go!
I love NYC for so many reasons… One in particular being how many things there are to do and see. With that being said, it can also lead to feeling overwhelmed and that you won’t be doing the right things.
With the Weekend Like a Local package, Hilton Hotels will curate an itinerary for you that includes discounts to restaurants, museums, theater, nightlife and more.
Not only will your stay be affordable but also hassle free with a carefully selected list of venues to visit just as the locals do. Let’s take a look into how I spent my NYC weekend like a local!
First things first, check in! Showing up to a new hotel excites me, especially when it’s surrounded by attractions and in a clean hip neighborhood. The Conrad New York was just this and more!
Located in lower Manhattan, I found this neighborhood to be extremely clean and quiet. I actually kept thinking to myself how it didn’t feel as thought I was in the assumed dirty and noisy city. With views of the Hudson Bay and local attractions you will feel more than equipt for your NYC adventures. A suite only luxury hotel, you will find the hotel not only offering a ton of space in your dwelling (space is few and far in NYC) but also visually pleasing. As you first step in you will be staring straight up at the beautiful or should I say grande 15 story atrium lobby that includes art work by a number of post-World War II masters and contemporary artists. The Conrad New York is sleek in design mixed with chic decor allowing you to enjoy the modern luxury lifestyle.
My room was one of the Hudson River Suites that are 430 square feet of space and feature private bedrooms with views of the river. I enjoyed the moments of peace in my quiet space to watch the sun fall and rise as the city continued to never sleeps. There is something magical in seeing all the live around you and you reflect on the possibilities surrounding you.
What I also enjoyed about this suite was the living space, wet bar and work desk that was fully functional for all your needs. The shower was stunning with both rainfall and detachable shower heads. Small detail but it truly makes all the difference. Turn down service was spot on offering a quick tidy, untuck of the bed and water at the bedside. I could comfortably live in the space. However, that is only half the reason I came to NYC, so let’s go out and explore like a local!
I arrived to the city in the afternoon which allowed me time to effortlessly check in at the Conrad and freshen up before dinner. One of the participating partners is Agern, a Michelin Star Restaurant, I was so excited this dinner would include a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and private kitchen tour.
We opted for the Chefs tasting that included perfectly paired wine for each dish. My favorite dish was the Tile Fish with Pistachio and my favorite paired wine was the Paul Lato Syrah. I could go on and on about how amazing each dish was, but instead I will let the pictures speak for themself!
Finishing the night with a private tour of the kitchen and venue was truly the cherry on top. It made for the entire experience to be intimate, exclusive and personal. Seeing what it takes to create every dish and the experts that are the magicians behind it all give a new found respect for culinary practices. Located in Grand Central Station I was able to see the history of the gorgeous building Agern resides in. I would highly recommend Agern. It is the perfect place to stop time as the city continues to rush around.
Speaking of rushing. The dinner was so enjoyable that we choose to fully indulge and ended up staying for 3 hours! Making it just in the knick of time for our show at the Roundabout Theatre Company. For those looking for an authentic NYC dinner and show experience need to look no further. Included in the package is discounts to Roundabout Theatre which is offering Weekend Like a Local guests 30% off single purchase tickets to any of their productions… What an amazing opportunity to see a show in the city that knows how to preform best!
We decided, with the time of night it was, to walk around the city, enjoy the city lights, breathe in the energy, and save it for the next day!
It’s a mini-vacation, so you have every right to sleep in and brunch hard! Brunch was spent with Atrio which is located in the Conrad New York. How convenient! Atrio serves seasonally inspired New American cuisine with most tables offering views of the stunning open kitchen. I choose the scrambled eggs bruschetta because after a night of wine tasting I needed the carbs and protein to tackle on the city while diminishing the slight headache.
Paring any brunch dish with a mimosa also helps! It was all so delicious! Service was perfectly synchronized with timing and efficiency. I think it’s safe to assume that guests are mostly on the go so attention to detail was well executed. It was time to start the first full day in the city and what a better way to start then a celebrity sighting. That’s right! As I was walking out of Atrio I am 99.9% sure I saw one of my idols who I look up to as a woman, Tyra Banks! EEEKK! Anything can happen in this city, right?
For the morning portion I decided it was best to explore by foot and walk off the amazing brunch. My room view was of the Hudson River but I had the urge to see it more closely. I few steps outside of the hotel entrance and I was standing on the pier that overlooked the Statue of Liberty as ferry’s passed. Just around the corner was another place I always wanted to visit in NYC, Ground Zero. Sentimental to many, I knew this place would have a lasting imprint on my memories during Weekend Like a Local. It was more than I could imagine. An overwhelming feeling as you memorialize everything this monument stands for. I felt both sadness for those lost and happiness for those who came together and continue to come together.
During your morning you can also choose to other discounted options such as ice skating, shopping or city brew tours. I opted for a visit to Brooklyn to see the Museum of Food and Drink, MOFAD. The current exhibit is called “Chow” and shows through March. You can find out exactly how the Chinese American Restaurant evolved. It’s a beloved cusine to many of us and I bet most of you have a “go-to” dish. I have at least 5! Best part, when you book your exhibition ticket you review 20% off and a three-course tasting menu or 20% off general admission.
Since I was already in Brooklyn, I thought it was the perfect time to venture down to the Brooklyn Bridge. Now, many locals use this as a connection to Manhattan. A walking bridge that is utilized by commuters on foot or bike. Others you can find on this historical bridge are those “doing it for the gram”. Yup, that was me. I totally wanted to see it for myself and prove it via photo! And so I did. A little pro tip – make sure your uber driver knows that you want to be on the bridge, not under it! That’s right, I have a little detour resulting in dead ends and turnarounds trying to find the foot bridge – but it was well worth it as I finally made it and have views of the financial district and beyond! The Conrad New York is actually relatively close to the bridge signatifying its stellar city location.
Ok, Im working up an appetite and new I have many more options to choose from using the weekend like a local package. Since I had not ventured up the the time square neighborhood, I thought dinner at Stella 34 Trattoria at Macy’s Herald Square was the perfect fit. This area is the quintessential New York, New York experience with taxis honking, grates steaming with subway pollution and billboards flashing. I couldn’t wait! Stella offers a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and 20% off your meal with the Macy’s VIP passport. The menu looked devine, I couldn’t choose! I went with a caesar salad followed by the Rigatoni. It was all so delicious I started eating my guests dish as well and topped it all off with coffee gelato while enjoying views of the glistening city sky line that surround your dining experience.
It’s the perfect time to visit NYC. There is always so much going on that includes city wide promotions with NYC Winter Outing such as restaurant week, 2 for 1 broadway tickets, and Must-See week featuring top museums attractions. The Weekend Like a Local just adds to the affordable opportunities to dive right into all the New York City has to offer. Below you will find the exclusive NYC offer for more details and booking! I can’t wait to return! I have so much to thank the Weekend Like a Local package for as it was able to introduce me to new experience I didn’t know existed in the city!
