To all the thrill lovers and adventure seekers, the Clearwater Super Boat National Championship may be the perfect activity for you. It combines everything you love – the excitement, the rush, the coastal Florida water – in a single weekend-long event. 2019 marked the 10th year of the race, and the Tampa/St. Pete area welcomed more than 50,000 visitors wanting to join in on the fun. And if you plan to be part of that number next year, be sure to check out our many Hilton hotels in Tampa and get your accommodations squared away early.
Regardless of if you’re going as a boating enthusiast or to actively participate yourself, here’s what you need to know about the competition:
More than 2,500 boats line Clearwater Beach for the 2.5-mile-long course. It’s a three-day event that typically takes place in late September. Spectators and vendors can watch from both the white sugary sand and as part of official VIP watch parties. The championship is facilitated by Hooter’s, and there are even volunteer opportunities if you want to get involved in a different way.
Participants can also expect lots of fun parties and engaging events during the weekend. On opening day, there’s the official Kick-Off party, the downtown block party where you can meet different boaters and win fun prizes, and also the Super Boat Race Village, which gives guests the opportunity to see and take pictures with all the amazing boats up close. On the Saturday of the event, you can expect more VIP party opportunities as well as an electric fireworks display with live entertainment and delicious bites. Sunday is the actual race day with different heats throughout the afternoon. The after-race party and awards ceremony is immediately following the races, and of course, comes with celebratory bites, beer and cocktails for all!
Make sure to get your passes, register your boats and secure your hotel in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater for the championship. It’s always sure to be a thrilling ride!
