Famed American novelist Ernest Hemingway spent most of the 1930’s living and writing in Key West, Florida. Because of that fact, he’s still widely celebrated and honored to this day in the city. Every year, the island holds the Hemingway Days celebration, and it’s slated every year to be in July.

The celebration explores everything related to Hemingway and his Key West stay, so if you’re a fan of his many accomplished works or even a writer yourself, this series of events is something you’ll enjoy. Travelers and locals alike can expect readings from his notable novels and short stories, presentations and panel discussions, a museum exhibition and even a marlin fishing tournament in honor of Hemingway’s love for deep-sea fishing.

Of course, there will accompanying parties and social events to commemorate the event too. There will even be a spirited look-a-like contest held at Sloppy Joe’s Bar off Duval Street, which was one of Hemingway’s favorite dives. His former home, the Hemingway House, is now a U.S. National Historic Landmark and is preserved at 907 Whitehead Street.

While you’re organizing your trip down South to relish in all things Hemingway, remember to think about all the great Hilton hotels in Key West. You can live like royalty (like Hemingway did) at the Casa Marina Key West, Waldorf Astoria Resort. The oceanfront resort sits on the only private beach in the city and combines everything you love about Key West with a touch of sophistication and elegance. Plus, the resort has multiple restaurants and eateries right on site to satisfy any type of craving. The Sun Sun Beach Bar & Grill serves local and light fare like seafood chowders and whole roasted fish with dazzling views of the water. Spencer’s by the Sea serves heartier dishes like USDA Prime steaks, short rib and Florida spiny lobster tail with fettuccine.

Make your annual South Florida trip complete this year with a combination of Hemingway Days and Casa Marina nights. It’ll be an experience you won’t forget!
