If you’re looking to visit Dallas and looking to branch outside of the downtown area, Plano and Frisco are great cities to experience. With so much to do for the family, couples, and friends, there’s something for everyone!

Both are located roughly 20 minutes away from Dallas, these cities are home to professional sports teams, world-class shopping, many corporate offices, and top attractions. Some of our favorites include:

Shops at Willow Bend

With the Willow Bend’s new expansion, shopping is only a portion of what Plano’s mall has to offer. The Shops at Willow Bend not only houses over 125 stores, but now also includes Crayola Experience, a Children’s theatre, and a courtyard with eight new restaurants offering both indoor and outdoor seating options. It doesn’t stop there! With individuals looking for more “experiences”, the shopping center has taken the shopping experience a step further. According to Guide Live, “Willow Bend customers will be able to buy alcohol, then shop with a drink in hand.” Can your shopping experience get better than that? We think not!

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

For nature lovers visiting Plano, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a great place to go for an afternoon stroll. This 200-acre park has many trails to choose from; whether you’re looking for a beauty walk/jog, want to take your kids out to a park, or want to book a beautiful photo-shoot, this park is the place to be!

Dr. Pepper Arena

Dallas is of course home to the Dallas Stars, who play at the American Airlines Center downtown. But they practice at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco. Practices are open to the public, but there’s still fun to be had when the team isn’t there. The arena is also home to the Texas Legends G League basketball team, and public ice skating sessions are held weekly. Special events such as the Harlem Globetrotters also stop in Frisco.

The Star District

The Star is one of Frisco’s newest developments. Not only is it home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters, but this attraction is 91-acres of premier sports and entertainment. With an indoor stadium that’s home to the Dallas Rattlers-the city’s Major League Lacrosse team, Ford Center is also where the Dallas Cowboys practice. Apart from the sports facilities, the Star holds many restaurants that are great to watch the game at, or even just enjoy on an afternoon or night out. With about 30 different dining options, there is something for everyone, from upscale dining at Dee Lincoln Prime to a fast-casual option at Raising Canes or East Hampton Sandwich Co.

If you’re not hungry and just looking to explore the area, bring a football with you and enjoy the weather on the mock football field. There are tons to do here and definitely a must-see in Frisco.

Located less than a mile away from The Star District is Embassy Suites by Hilton Dallas Frisco Hotel Convention Center & Spa. This newly renovated all-suites hotel has an on-site spa and pool and offers a complimentary evening reception, hot breakfast & fitness center.

Boardwalk at Granite Park

With dining, shopping, nature, and a hotel, the Boardwalk at Granite Park is where it all comes together! Grab a bite to eat at one of seven restaurants, or enjoy craft bear at Union Bear-Plano’s local brewpub, and then take a stroll down the boardwalk.

With Hilton Dallas/Plano Granite Park located on the boardwalk, you’re offered waterfront dining, entertainment and shopping all a walk away from your hotel room! Not only is this a prime location for the boardwalk, but this hotel is also located a mile away from the Shops at Legacy and Legacy West, where you’re welcome to take the hotel shuttle to.

Legacy West and Legacy Hall

Home to the Metroplex’s largest food hall and one of the largest in the nation, Legacy Hall is home to over 20 food stalls. With a mix of cuisines from Classic American, to Mediterranean, Asian, French and much more, this is a one-stop-shop for all your taste buds. Not only is Legacy Hall a foodie haven, but it’s also a destination for craft beer enthusiasts. With the housing of Unlawful Assembly, and large screens, this is a great destination to watch your favorite sports teams, book a brewery tour, enjoy trivia night, or even just spending an evening exploring all the options.

When your appetite cannot take any more, step outside and enjoy a stroll around Legacy West. With many shopping options, you can get your favorites while avoiding the rush of a mall. Not only is this area home of top shops like Lululemon, J Crew, Rustic Cuff, Tesla and more, but it also holds some of the most exclusive dining options such as Del Frisco’s Double Eagle and Toulouse.

Perfect for families, couples, and a group of friends, you can enjoy just about any atmosphere at any time of the day.

Shops at Legacy

The Shops at Legacy is an urban lifestyle center with award-winning restaurants, lounges, unique shopping, and entertainment. With events almost every weekend, you can find something to do during the day, stroll through boutique stores, and grab a bite to eat.

Grandscape

If you’re looking to pick one stop and not move around, but are also looking for a place worthy of that, Grandscape is the place to be! Home to Lave Cantina and Rock & Brews, two of North Dallas’ favorite hot spots, this neighborhood takes live music, dining, and entertainment to a whole new level! Just like these two dining/entertainment venue, Grandscape is home to many restaurants that you cannot go wrong with- like Urban8, a local food court in a chic environment located right in front of Top Golf! If you’re looking to step away from food for a bit, take a stroll in Nebraska Furniture Mart, the largest home furnishing store in North America selling furniture, flooring, appliances and electronics.
