There’s one thing for certain: you won’t get bored in Puebla. On the contrary, this city offers so much to see and do, with so many unique cultural activities to choose from. It is the birthplace of Cinco de Mayo, a celebration loved all over the world, as well as the only place where you can buy Talavera pottery and where mole was born. Folklore, tradition and national pride are woven through every experience in this special city. From its baroque architecture to its authentic Mexican cuisine and traditions, Puebla is an ideal and idyllic tourist destination.
We invite you to visit and learn about Puebla by staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel Puebla Angelópolis México, which offers easy access to the Metropolitan Auditorium and the Angelópolis Shopping Center, the largest shopping center in the city, where you can take advantage and get in a little shopping during your stay.
The Historic Center of Puebla is at the foot of the Popocatepeli volcano and where you will find preserved religious buildings and baroque features of the time, with more than 2,000 monuments. For our tour of Puebla, we will start with the Chapel of the Virgen del Rosario annexed to the Temple of Santo Domingo. The majesty and blinding golden glow that completely enshrines this place of worship is the reason they have called it the Golden House and the eighth wonder of the world. We assure you that you have never seen anything like it and it is possible after visiting it, other churches will pale in comparison.
Here you can also admire the oldest library in the Americas, which is one stop you can’t forget to include in your itinerary. The Palafoxiana library dates back to the 17th century and was the first Mexican public library of the colonial era. Upon entering you will feel this place houses all the mysteries and secrets of the world, including manuscripts and original documents from the time of the conquerors.
On Calle de los Dulces (“the street of sweets”), anyone and everyone with a sweet tooth will be overwhelmed and overjoyed, with 40 candy stores to choose from. Puebla is famous for its sweet potatoes, so definitely try those, as well as the pancakes from Santa Clara. On Calle de los Muñecos (“the street of the dolls”), you will be captivated by the 16 moving mosaics. If you are looking to buy some artisanal mementos and souvenirs, then a stop at Parián is a must, as it was the first craft market in the city. We also strongly recommend a sampling of the famous mole poblano and chile en nogada in places like the Mural de los Poblanos, Augurio, La Noria and Casa Barroca.
Now we move onto the Parque Lineal (which translates to “linear park”), which features four main attractions: the Metropolitan Ecopark, where you can do hiking or cycling activities, and in case you travel with your pet, you can also bring it along with you; the Garden of Art, where you can jog or ride a bike and get closer to nature; the top attraction is the largest observation wheel in the world, the Star of Puebla; and finally, enjoy the Paseo Río Atoyac recreation center, which seeks to promote care for the environment.
The most famous museum of the region is the Amparo Museum, which chronicles Mexican history from 2,500 B.C. to present day. The International Baroque Museum is also one of the most modern museums and honors the Mexican architecture of the Baroque era. The Museum of the Mexican Revolution or the House of the Serdán Brothers is a stop where you can see real bullet holes from the era of the war over Mexican’s independence. A historical tour of this magical city is unlike any other.
If you have time, we recommend a visit to Cantona, one of the eight archeological zones of Puebla, which is only an hour away by car. This settlement is on a lava field or malpaís and is considered the most urbanized pre-Hispanic city in Mexico. You could also visit the forts of Loreto and Guadalupe, where you will be transported back in time and learn about the history of the Mexican revolution.
A different and unique experience, suitable for children and serious animal lovers, is a visit to Africa, an African safari-style zoo, where you can drive slowly through the park and get up close and personal with lions, tigers and bears.
