Nicole, a bartender at the Grand Naniloa Resort Hilo, has been working at Hula Hulas since it opened in late 2017. She and her now fiancé moved to the Big Island because of an opportunity to work with local farmers and learn about organic agriculture. Six years later, they set their roots in Pahoa, a small town on the island’s easternmost tip.

With over 4,000 square miles of land (and growing), Nicole has gotten acquainted with the Big Island’s many hiking trails. Some of her favorite trails are ones she can take Griz, her friendly pup that she adopted from Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary, a local rescue that the hotel proudly supports. For avid hikers, Nicole recommends a trip to Halape, a popular backpacking destination on the southern seacoast of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This nine-mile hike brings you to primitive beaches, perfect for hiding out and camping. Be sure to visit the Kilauea Visitor Center for trail information, maps and permits.

Whether you’re planning a short hike or a challenging trek, be sure to reward yourself at Hulu Hulus at the Grand Naniloa Resort – a Doubletree by Hilton. Where you’ll find Nicole pouring local brews and crafting a perfectly mixed cocktail.
