Atlanta loves Halloween. Whether it’s neighborhood parades or world-famous haunted houses, Atlanta offers a perfect weekend of thrills, scares and good old-fashioned fun. Come for the weekend and stay in these hotels.

Stone Mountain certainly is in the Halloween spirit. Stone Mountain Park celebrates Pumpkin Festival Play by Day Glow by Night, which takes place on Friday and Saturdays until Nov. 3. Enjoy all the attractions during the day and then at night, the park turns into a Halloween party. There will be thousands of jack-o-lanterns, costumed characters, glow-in-the-dark mini golf and  10 new fairytale themed areas featuring 40 newly imaged scenes with glowing lights, bubbles and fog.

Not far from Stone Mountain Park is Netherworld Haunted House, which is a self-guided, dark attraction known for its scary characters — human and not-so-human — special effects and frights galore. Netherworld will be scaring folks at various dates and times until Nov. 9.

Only three miles from Six Flags Over Georgia, the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta/West in Lithia Springs, is perfect for a family looking for Halloween scares! On October 19, 20, 26 and 27, one of the city’s best family celebration returns with sights, characters and Zoo Boo Town. Party with more than 1,000 animals from around the world and then get Halloween surprises as you walk throughout the zoo. Don’t miss the Freaky Foam Zone, an inflatable area with a foam machine, Monster Mash Disco, Kids’ Craft, carnival games, inflatable corn maze, pumpkin carving artist and live music. Be careful! It seems there is a candy this on the loose so be sure to take the train ride and help the sheriffs apprehend the wily fox who wants the candy!

While visiting the zoo, a terrific hotel that is close-by is Hilton Atlanta, which is located in the heart of downtown and a few exits off I-20 from Zoo Atlanta. The hole has 1,240 updated guest room and 32 suites that offer spectacular skyline views, which are perfect for families. While we are sure a day at Zoo Atlanta will zap some of your children’s energy, but if not, how about a family tennis or basketball game.
