Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but for those of us that rise a little later brunch is our jam. This glorious spread of pancakes and mimosas started in the 1930s when Hollywood stars would make transcontinental train trips that stopped in Chicago for late-morning meals. These days, brunch spots are a dime-a-dozen in any city and you need to know which places are worth their weight (and wait). Check out our suggestions below for the top six brunch restaurants in Houston.

The Rustic – Downtown

If you like your brunch served family-style with a smorgasbord of delectable eye candy, The Rustic is here for you. Baby Fried Toast, Smoked Cheddar Grits, and Hot Chicken are just a few of the many delicacies placed in front of you that you’ll need to wash down with a carafe of Mariposa Mimosas. Grab all of your friends and enjoy your brunch with live music for $16.95 per person!

Bosscat Kitchen & Libations – Galleria

Instagram worthy dishes are a specialty at Bosscat Kitchen & Libations. “Fruity Pebbles” French Toast, a Donut Burger, and Totchos are just a few drool-worthy, ‘cheat meal’ creations that you can tuck into. There’s also Avocado Toast, Overnight Oats, Pork Belly Breakfast Tacos, and an assortment of other more diet-friendly dishes that are equally as yummy.

Adair Kitchen – Galleria

Oh, Adair, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…I can’t get enough of Adair Kitchen – they’re probably my worst kept brunch secret because I take everyone here. The food is always cooked perfectly – whether you’re noshing on Avocado + Chorizo toast or Crispy Chicken + Waffles – and their refried black beans are legendary (I know it sounds weird as a breakfast side, but just trust me). Adair is also incredibly budget friendly, so if you’re looking to eat well on the cheap, Adair’s your new bestie.

The General Public – City Center

I’ve meandered into General Public a weekend, or two, ravenous for their Cinnamon French Toast (carnival style, obviously) and Croque Madame. Brunch is as near and dear to their hearts here as their love of a strong cocktail – and their cocktails are strong y’all! If you’re feeling more savory than sweet, the Steak & Blue Cheese Sandwich or the Shrimp & “Grits” are not to be missed.

The Grove – Downtown

Brunch buffets hold a special place in my heart, and The Grove’s Sunday “Brunch on the Green” hits all the high notes. If you’re feeling voraciously hungry, the $35 brunch buffet is the way to go with its omelet station, carving station, specialty dishes (like pretzel bun pork belly & egg sliders and BBQ brisket benedict), dessert station, and more. Add bottomless brunch drinks for $15 with penny refills and you’re having a very merry Sunday, indeed.

State Fare – West Houston

If you’re searching for delicious biscuits and mind-blowing bacon, State Fare needs to be at the top of your list. They specialize in bold dishes with a Southern flair and perfectly execute a brunch menu that would bring a tear to your dear granny’s eye. Also, if you’re a pickle connoisseur, you need to order the Dill Pickle Dip stat because it’s about to be your new fav – smother it on everything!
