If you are planning to visit Mexico during Christmas season, there is an incredible destination on the southern border of the country. It is full of Mayan history, stunning landscapes, unique colors, and exquisite coffee. This state is Chiapas, and you should definitely experience its greatness by yourself.

Mexico is not only synonymous of paradisiacal beaches and big cities; this country never ceases to amaze us with the diversity of its culture and natural settings. Chiapas is an example of it: this southern state is home of magical towns such as San Cristóbal de las Casas, impressive landscapes as Cañón del Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon) and historical sites as Palenque.

San Cristóbal de las Casas is a city settled in the middle of the mountains. Its magical because of the contrast between the wooded landscape that surrounds it, and the color of its markets, churches, cafés and cobblestone avenues. The mist that normally descends into its streets gives them a magical touch, perfect to enjoy an exquisite Chiapas’ coffee. This city blends perfectly a pre-hispanic past with a colonial architecture.

Palenque, on the other hand, is an archeological zone with 200 pre-hispanic structures, which borders impressive natural landscapes. To access this site, located at the north of the state, you need to cross the Lacandon Jungle, a green area full of wildlife, spectacular waterfalls (Cascadas de Agua Azul) and the Usumacinta River.

Finally, Cañón del Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon) is an impressive natural structure: two mountainous walls form a cliff that shelters a quiet stagnant river that can be traveled by boat. In this canyon lives an extensive fauna (much of it in danger of extinction): spider monkeys, crocodiles, ocelots, and a great diversity of birds that fly over the place. Going to this place is an incredible experience: you may be able to admire different rock formations and the fauna of the site.

Whether you want to practice adventure tourism or you are eager to travel on foot and fall in love with its magical towns, Chiapas is a marvelous destination. So, if you have already decided to go on an adventure, remember to book your best stay with us.
