New Braunfels, TX
Located about 35 miles outside of San Antonio lays New Braunfels, home of Texas’ best water park, Schlitterbahn. This 70-acre water resort covers overs over 50 attractions. Or to experience a more relaxing day out, rent some tubes and float the Comal River; BYOB and spend hours in the72-degree river that goes on for miles!
San Marcos, TX
An hour outside of San Antonio lays San Marcos. This small city had a ton to offer! Not only is it home to Texas State University, but it is also a well-known shopping destination. With both the Tanger Outlets and San Marcos Premium Outlets, this is the go-to-stop for those looking for designer clothing/ accessories at a great deal! The outdoor scene is also something that should not be missed! Go to the Wonder Caves, or grab a tube, kayak, or paddle board and go floating down Sewell Park!
Cave Without a Name
About an hour out of San Antonio is the Cave Without a Name, a National Natural Landmark. Experience this breathtaking natural experience with caves that are 66-degrees year round! Don’t forget your camera, this is a great place to take pictures!
Enchanted Rock/ Fredericksburg
Enchanted Rock is located in Fredericksburg, which is known for more than this magical park. Known as a city of historical importance in Texas, Fredericksburg is a popular weekend destination with trendy restaurants, music venues, wine bars, and theaters. Hike, rock climb, picnic, camp out, and stargaze about 2 hours outside of San Antonio. This destination is perfect for the nature lovers that don’t want to go too far. Climb the ancient dome for a beautiful view of the Hill Country, or explore the 11 miles of hiking trail. If you are planning to bring your pet with you, keep in mind pets are only allowed on the Loop Trail and main picnic and camping areas.
Located an hour outside of San Antonio is Canyon Lake. This is your go-to destination for group picnics/ a day out. Recognized as the “Jewel of the Hill Country,” this lake holds a par 72 golf course, 8 parks for people to picnic, swim, boat, fish, and camp, along with deer and other wildlife that can be spotted along the Guadalupe River.
Garner State Park
Located two hours outside of San Antonio is Garner State Park, the most popular state park in Texas. With high hills, and deep canyons it’s a photographer’s dream. Not only can you explore this park on foot, but also the Frio River allows you to kayak, swim, and fish your way through. Just outside this state park is Frio Bat Flight where you can witness millions of bats ascend to the evening sky.
Make your way to a beach! Corpus Christi is just 2 hours away from San Antonio and the perfect destination if you are looking for a beach getaway. Sheltered by South Padre and Mustang Island, Corpus Christi is the perfect getaway for a day at the beach. Visit the Whataburger while you’re here and be sure to grab yourself a delicious Patty Melt- after all, this is where the amazing food-chain began! You haven’t experienced Texas until you’ve had Whataburger! There is much to do here than just the beach. Visit the Texas State Aquarium or the USS Lexington!
