Downton Abbey: The Exhibition offers a fully immersive experience inside the world of Carnival Films’ multi-award-winning global television phenomenon and upcoming feature film. The exhibition is running at The Castle at Park Plaza through September 29.
Based on the beloved television show, Downton Abbey: The Exhibition transports you to post-Edwardian England where the characters and the iconic house come to life. You’ll be immersed in the fascinating social history, culture, and some of the most memorable moments from the show’s six-season run.
The exhibition includes authentic set recreations such as Mrs. Patmore’s hectic kitchen and the glamorous Crawley dining room – brought together by Donal Wood, the Emmy award-winning Production Designer on the series.
It also features over 50 official costumes worn by the cast, including both Mary and Edith’s wedding dresses, Mary’s season two proposal dress, and Rose’s royal presentation dress. The costumes were curated by Anna Robbins (Costume Designer on seasons 5 and 6), who was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the show.
Thousands of official artifacts from the show’s six season run will also be on display, including the iconic bell board from servants’ dining room, and telegrams informing Lord Grantham of the sinking of the Titanic and outbreak of war with Germany.
The enhanced exhibition will offer never-before-seen elements connecting fans to their favorite characters, costumes, locations and historic events of the era, as well as showcase exclusive footage. In anticipation of the Downton Abbey movie, hitting the big screen on September 20, the Boston exhibition features several costumes from the film that have never before been seen in the exhibition.
Hailed by the New York Times as “a cleverly immersive experience mounted with the same exacting care as the show itself,” Downton Abbey: The Exhibition received an overwhelming response, attracting vast crowds daily since opening its doors in 2017 in New York City.
“It feels particularly fitting to be in Boston, where we know we have a loyal and very enthusiastic fanbase, during the opening of Downton Abbey the Movie in September.” said Gareth Neame, Executive Chairman of Carnival Films and Executive Producer of Downton Abbey.
