Guanajuato City is a cultural destiny at the heart of Mexico. Cradle of artistic expressions, great legends and with a unique colonial architecture, this Mexican city is perfect to explore on foot and enjoy in this Christmas season.

During the colonial period, Guanajuato was a very important economic center, thanks to the mining deposits of the place. Today, gold and silver mining continues, but the greatness of this charming city is based on its colorful facades, winding alleys and the bohemian atmosphere that surrounds it.

We suggest you to not use a car to travel through Guanajuato’s streets. This city built between hills is full of walkways and steep streets, perfect to go by foot. We recommend you to arrive by car to its imposing viewpoints. One of them, the Pipila Monument (in honor of one of the Mexican Independence heroes), is a sculpture in pink quarry, built on the top of one of the hills that surround the city.

In downtown you may be able to explore its vibrant alleys full of history, one of them is El Callejón del Beso, a narrow street with two balconies that face each other. This place has a century-old legend that says that if you and your partner visit it and kiss in the third staircase, seven years of happiness will bless your relationship.

Other magical places to visit are: Teatro Juárez (Juárez Theater), a building with a beautiful architecture that dates back to the 19th century; the Museum of the Mummies, a classic destination that exhibits 100 millenary mummies; the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a historic building of Mexican independence; and the underground passageways that connect the city.

If you still have time don’t forget to visit the Plaza Mayor, Hidalgo Market and Guanajuato’s University, the most important university institution in the state of Guanajuato. All of these sites have an indescribable classic beauty that you need to appreciate with your own eyes.

So, if you want to feel in home, and to discover a destination full of art and culture on this winter vacation, reserve with us and fall in love with this beautiful colonial city.
