The Boulders Golf Club
Home to stunning views, the two award-winning Jay Morrish-designed courses at The Boulders Golf Club are often considered the most demanding in the Southwest. The 6,811-yard par 72 championship North Course is the older of the two and golfers here will be treated to great views of the Black Mountain. For a more challenging day of play and even more scenic views, hit up the 6,726-yard par 71 championship South Course. This course features holes that border the iconic boulder formations like the Boulder Pile and Rosie’s Rock.
Troon North Golf Club
If you’re on the hunt for a day of classic desert golf, tee up at Troon North Golf Club. The club is home to two recently renovated 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed courses, Monument and Pinnacle. The 7,039-yard Monument course features huge greens, large boulders and many tees perched above fairways for a unique challenge. Arroyos, natural washes, saguaros and other desert elements add to the winding course. Like its sister, the Pinnacle course also has a demanding layout. High-lipped bunkers and mounds and two trying par 3s highlight this course.
Quintero Golf Club
Spanning over 7,200 yards of play from the championship tees and a comfortable 5,043 yards from the forward tees, this Rees Jones-designed course often tops many “must-play” lists. The 18 holes are nestled into a secluded desert location, requiring exacting shots from tee to green. Strategic bunker placements, generous landing areas and smooth bentgrass greens add a dynamic layer of fun for players of all skill levels.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club
The two award-winning courses at We-Ko-Pa offer some of the best views yet different styles of play. The Scott Miller-designed Cholla is a classic target-style, desert course while the Saguaro Course, co-designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, features a more traditional style with a walkable layout that flows with the land. Both are highlighted by demanding par 4s and unique par 3s, making for a diverse challenge. Multi-tiered putting surfaces, elevated tee boxes and split-fairways round out the fun characteristics of these two desert beauties.
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
This Maricopa course pays tribute to the great links-land courses. The course was designed by Schmidt-Curley Design, Inc. with the help of Fred Couples. A day of play here will include creative routing, rugged landforms and native grasses. Golfers will be inclined to use their driver on nearly every hole due to the strategically placed flashed-up bunkers. Well-designed greens require precise shots but its varying tee placements mean that any skill-level will enjoy a round here.
