I’d been coming to Portland for over eight years, and have always loved telling people about all of the great things happening in the city. Then Feast Portland launched, and I came even more.

I was excited to open a restaurant here last year because the city, its proximity to beautiful bike rides and stunning nature, the people and the community here are unmatched. Portland gives me endless inspiration, whether it’s through talking to new gin distillers or brewers, or finding out where our guests are eating around town so I can go support friends in the neighborhood.

Jackrabbit is based on the rich history of Portland. I’m from the East Coast originally and am struck by the Portland story of the coin toss – where the city could have been named for Portland, Maine or Boston, Massachusetts. That inspired a Coin Toss cocktail on our drinks menu, where the server flips a coin and you can receive either gin or tequila in your drink. Everything inside of the restaurant is based on Portland history and made from materials from the area – even our tables are made from fallen Oregon trees.

The craftsmanship that each maker puts into his or her product here really hits home for me. It’s what we all aspire to – making great things for a community we care about – and it’s what keeps me coming back. And I’m always amazed how the collective love of the outdoors always makes its way into Portland’s maker culture. I guess having beautiful mountains, rivers and coastline nearby doesn’t hurt!

To that end, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite places to hit when I’m in Portland. Try them out – you’ll like them too! I’m a former professional cyclist, I love music, and skateboarding, so you’ll see a lot of my interests beyond food reflected here.
