After all of the stress of the holiday season, catch some serious me time with a supersized weekend getaway. So treat yo self and add on a couple of days to a winter weekend, and make the most of everything Toronto has to offer.
Thursday (Day One):
Drop those bags at the hotel, there isn’t one minute to lose of this winter weekend! But I hope you packed for the weather because it’s chilly outside. Sure, Toronto isn’t famous for its sub-zero temps, but any day in January through March is likely to be very cold. Bundle up (we recommend gloves, scarf and toque, plus snowpants if there is windchill) and head downtown for a famous Toronto pastime; skating Nathan Philips Square in the shadow of City Hall. Rentals are available on-site, so lace up and get your skate on. If you get hungry, there are tons of food trucks serving delicious skate fuel; poutine! Don’t forget to take a selfie of the iconic TORONTO sign.
After your skate, walk south to King Street and hop the streetcar east to the historic Distillery District. Browse the boutique stores and take in the craftsman buildings, where artists busily work while you watch. If you aren’t too full, we highly recommend a Mayan Hot Chocolate at SOMA Chocolatemakers; a drink so thick, rich, and spicy, that you may want to share with a friend. As the sun sets, experience the Toronto Light Festival, which transforms the Distillery District into a sparkling outdoor gallery, featuring works from local and international artists. For a perfect end to the night, thaw out beside the firepit in the open air patio at El Catrin, an award-winning authentic Mexican restaurant with hopping outdoor lounge. Order a selection of ceviches, guacamole made tableside and a tequila flight to warm the blood.
Friday (Day Two):
With all of yesterday’s activity, you will be grateful for today’s slower pace. Sure, you can sleep in, but don’t dawdle too long: our next stop is simply delicious. Join the Culinary Adventure Company for Toronto’s #1 best rated St. Lawrence Market Food Tour. In 2012, National Geographic named the St. Lawrence Market the “Best Food Market in the World” for good reason. Spectacular butchers, dynamic fishmongers and a collection of unbelievable bakeries make up the market that has been a Toronto attraction for over 200 years. Culinary Adventure Company has selected some of the best and brightest from over 120 vendors to learn, eat and enjoy the flavours of Toronto’s best market. Across 10 stops, over an array of 12 tastings including local coffee, sweet pastries, fresh fruit, hand-made mustards to one of the most well-known sandwiches in the city (and so much more) – we promise you’ll leave full of food and history. And don’t worry if you didn’t get that sleep in…caffeine is the first stop!
You won’t want to move too much after all of those treats, so a spa visit is the perfect prescription. Visit Hammam Spa, a Turkish style baths, to experience full relaxation. This full service co-ed day spa features a 500 Square foot Hammam Steam Room, authentic Turkish Suites for wet services, and three ultra-exclusive spa suites equipped with 2 person jacuzzi tubs, rain showers and massage beds.
Saturday (Day Three):
Wakey wakey, the outdoors is calling! After a delicious and nutritious breakfast made with the best local produce and flavours, get up and out with Toronto Adventures, whose snowshoeing adventures will get the blood flowing. With snowshoeing events in and around Toronto, you will be able to experience the city at its snowy best. To go totally extra, book a dog sledding adventure and escape the city for a day of Winter Fun including a Warm Fire, Marshmallow Roasting, S’mores, and PUPPEHS. After all of that snow, you will want to head back to your hotel for a warm up. May we suggest a hot tub?
Before your evening activities, enjoy an intimate dinner at Tundra. Featuring Canadian cuisine with edge, you’ll find Alberta Bison, pan seared Black Cod, BC Salmon, and AAA Ontario Striploin. To work off that delicious meal, walk ten minutes to the lakefront and the Harbourfront Centre to experience DJ Skate Nights. Named “Toronto’s best winter blockparty”, you can skate to the pulsing tunes from local and International DJs.
Sunday (Day Four):
Yes, it’s your last day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t linger. Lie in, experience your hotel pool or fitness room, and enjoy your complimentary breakfast before setting off home. We can’t wait to host you in the future.
