There’s no shortage of incredible theater options in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In fact, it’s widely shared that the Twin Cities have the second most theater seats per capita after New York City. So it’s no wonder that locals and visitors enjoy everything from famous Broadway musicals and the Minnesota Opera to stand-up comedy acts and local improv shows.

The Hennepin Theatres

Among the many theaters across the Twin Cities area, the historic Orpheum, Pantages, and State Theatres help make up the Hennepin Theatre District in downtown Minneapolis. These venues have hosted some of the biggest names in theater. And while quality performances keep people coming back, the theaters are spectacles themselves, helping to make the Hennepin Theatre District a must-do in Minneapolis.

PANTAGES THEATRE: the smallest and oldest of the three theaters, Pantages opened in 1916 and now seats 1,014. Pantages closed from 1984 – 1996 and was then restored and reopened in 2002.

STATE THEATRE: opened in 1921 and seats 2,181. Once hosted vaudeville acts and movies, it was restored as a theater in 1991 after being used as a place of worship in the 80’s.

ORPHEUM THEATRE: opened in 1921 and seats 2,579. Has hosted notable performers including the Marx Brothers, Elton John, and many Broadway shows.

Hilton Perk: show your Hilton key card at the 9th street VIP entrance to the Orpheum for no line, no wait. There’s no box office at this entrance so make sure to have your tickets prior to entering.
