Something about summer just makes us want to let loose and relax. Whatever your recipe, we’re all in for an ideal summer’s day. And what can be more ideal than family fun in Alamo City? School is out, and we’re looking for precious time with the whole family. Whether you’re traveling from afar or just looking to explore your own backyard, we have your San Antonio family-friendly dining destinations by Chef Jason Dady.

Two Bros. BBQ Market

Near to the airport and “tucked in the back” off of West Avenue is award-winning Two Bros. BBQ Market. Two Bros. was started by brothers Jake and Jason Dady, who wanted to create a family-friendly Classic Texas Pit Barbecue experience – which is exactly what they did. Walk in the front door and you’ll find an open dining room with a giant chalkboard menu covering the wall, listing different slow-smoked meats, house-made sides and “pickins,” or starters. Be sure to begin with the bacon-wrapped and cream cheese-stuffed Smoked Jalapeños or the piled-high Chopped Beef Frito Pie. Order a generous portion of Cherry Glazed Baby Back Ribs, Smoked Sausage and Pulled Pork, or indulge in the signature “Cheesy Chop,” which is half Chopped Beef and half Home-Made Mac and Cheese served side-by-side in a pint. So simple, yet so delicious. If you have room for dessert, the Daily Cobbler crust is made from scratch, and the Banana Pudding is exactly what you remember from your childhood dreams. Wash it all down with some Texas beer, while the kids run it off on the giant play yard under the trees.

Two Bros. BBQ Market is located at 12656 West Avenue, SA, TX 78216.

Alamo BBQ Co.

Located one block east of the Pearl and just north of Downtown, Alamo BBQ Co. serves Classic Texas Pit Barbecue 7-days-a-week. Offering lunch, dinner and weekday happy hour, the Alamo BBQ Co. menu includes: Peach Glazed Baby Back Ribs, perfectly moist Smoked Creekstone Brisket, a supremely San Antonian Chopped Beef Queso and delicious House-Made sides. The outdoor play yard keeps kids busy and active for hours, while the full bar – featuring Texas brews and the signature Frosé cocktail – provide a welcome reprieve on a hot summer day. Happy Hour is Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 PM and includes specials on both drinks and snacks, which means the whole family has something to enjoy. On Friday and Saturday nights, Alamo BBQ Co. hosts live music from 6 – 9 PM, showcasing local bands and acoustic sets to fuel your weekend fun! The best part: all bands are family-friendly, and the live music is free to diners. If you don’t have time to dine in, or if you’re throwing a little summer soirée of your own, Alamo BBQ Co. also takes to-go orders and offers pre-determined family BBQ packs – choose from the “Family Feeding Frenzy (feeds 4+),” “Big Ol’ Backyard BBQ (feeds 10+),” or the “Lonestar State Party (feeds 27+).” Each pack includes a bit of all the meats and choice of sides.

Alamo BBQ Co. is located at 511 E. Grayson Street, SA, TX 78215.

Shuck Shack

Not in the mood for BBQ? Not a worry. Located right across the street from Alamo BBQ Co. is Shuck Shack, serving San Antonio Hot Fried Chicken & Daily Fresh Oysters with family-friendly flare. Bringing a coastal experience to the mainland, Shuck Shack serves as the ultimate seafood and fried food destination. With East and Gulf Coast Oysters on the half-shell, Hot Fried Chicken Nuggets and Cheesy Enchilada Gravy, Southern Fried Catfish, and the Signature Maine Coldwater Lobster Roll, Shuck Shack’s menu has something to please the whole family. Guests can choose their spice level – House Spice, Muy Caliente or What the Shuck – on all fried chicken and shrimp. Come Tuesday through Friday from 3 – 6 PM to enjoy discounted food and drink specials (score!) during happy hour. You can relax on the family-friendly patio and sip a cool classic cocktail (may we suggest the Watermelon Margarita?), while the kiddos enjoy the play yard or a local Paleta as a sweet treat… talk about perfect summer days!

Shuck Shack is located at 520 E. Grayson Street, SA, TX 78215.
