Riviera Maya has a myriad of natural attractions, including cenotes, beaches, and even parks, which you should take into account when planning your next vacation. When you stay at any Hilton property in the Riviera Maya, the options are endless to ensure you have not only a special but also an unforgettable experience. One of the best offerings comes from the Experiencias Xcaret group, which has a total of five parks in the Riviera Maya: Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xplor, Xoximilco and Xenses. So which one should you visit? If you do not have time to visit them all, below we take a deep dive into the three most popular parks – Xcaret, Xel-há and Xplor – to help you make the decision.

Parque Xcaret

This is the standout among tourists as it’s received more than 25 million visits since it first opened its doors. In 2018, it was awarded the Liseberg Applaus Award, recognizing it as the Best Park in the World. This award takes into account the park’s management, operations and creative achievements, which help to inspire the industry with their vision, originality and business development.

Xcaret is a one-of-a-kind destination as it gives visitors the opportunity to interact and engage with 50 different Mexican cultural attractions in a totally unique way. Travel through underground rivers, the jungle and the beautiful Caribbean Sea like never before. Enjoy the imposing Mayan ruins all while enjoying delicious culinary delights and traditional dances.

The park opens its doors every day from 8:30am to 10:30pm, children under 4 enter for free, and those between 5 and 11 pay half the price. Entrance to the park includes: visits to three underground rivers, a Mexican show, beach access, inlet and natural wells, trips to the Coral Reef Aquarium, the Butterfly and the Aviary, World of Children, equestrian show, flying Papantla, prehistoric dances and tours of the tropical jungle trail.

Parque Xel-Há

This fun park opens its doors from 8:30am to 6:00 pm, and as in the case of Xcaret, children under 4 are free and admission is  half-price for children between the ages of 5 and 11.

Unleash your explorer spirit by doing unlimited snorkeling, or go tubing on the river, climb to the lookout lighthouse which offers 360-degree views of the city from 40 meters above, then give way to adrenaline with a rapid descent down the slide. You can also take a trip through the jungle, cenotes, caves and grottos, zipline, or visit the Meliponario and the Nursery or the World of Children.

All these activities will certainly work up your appetite, and to end, parkgoers have access to a delicious continental breakfast, snacks and a food buffet.

Parque Xplor

This park is for those who crave adventure and has two dimensions. Xplor day (9:00am-5:00pm) and Xplor fire at night (5:30pm-11:30pm). The minimum age to enter is 5, and admission is half-price for children between 5 and 11.

Xplor is all about inviting you to do the most daring and the unexpected, and above all, to test your adrenaline. You can choose one or more of the following activities:

  • Take a 4km tour along 2 circuits consisting of 6 ziplines, with the highest measuring 45m tall
  • Traverse down two 5km circuits stretching between the Mayan jungle in amphibious vehicles
  • Row down two rivers – one id 530m long and the other 570m – on board rafts
  • Swim through a 400m-long underground river
  • Walk through caverns
  • Ride down a zipline while sitting in a hammock, descending into a cenote

The three parks offer all sorts of promotions, like reduced admission (from 10% to 50% off), so keep your eyes and ears open to the various discounts available.

As an overview, Xcaret park is ideal for a family and friends getaway, but especially for those who really want to get in touch with nature and Mexican culture without getting too dirty. For its part, Xel-há combines the best of both worlds, is very family-friendly but also offers serves up plenty of adventure for those looking for it. Without a doubt, Xplor is for those who are bold and brave and totally game to get dirty.

Nobody said it would be an easy decision! The Hilton team is at your service to answer any and all of your questions to make your vacation an unforgettable experience. We remind you to follow the safety instructions provided by the hotel and for each park, as well as packing responsibly and coming well prepared with items such as insect repellent, comfortable and appropriate shoes, and a bathing suit. Finally, Hilton Hotels emphasize the importance of protecting our environment and being mindful and careful not to litter and clean up after yourselves so it doesn’t take away from someone else’s experience.
