A Peek into Hawaii's Rich History

Central Oahu’s most notable landmark, Pearl Harbor, sits to the south and is the largest natural harbor in the state. Home to an active naval base, Pearl Harbor is where you’ll find four historic sites: USS Arizona Memorial, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the Pacific Aviation Museum.

The valley of Central Oahu was also at the epicenter of Hawaii’s booming pineapple and sugar industry in the early 19th century. Today, you can still see and visit the sprawling pineapple fields just before you head to the North Shore. Dole Plantation pays homage to Hawaii’s agricultural history and multicultural traditions. Families enjoy a ride on the Pineapple Express train, getting lost in the world’s largest maze and strolling through the Plantation Garden tour.

Two popular shopping destinations are located in Central Oahu. Waikele Premium Outlets is the only outlet center on Oahu with more than 50 designer and brand name stores. At Aloha Stadium, you can find fun souvenirs and the best deals at Hawaii’s largest open air flea market.
