Outdoor paradise and whimsy wait just beyond your hotel lobby.

A quick, three-hour drive away, Portland offers a quirky departure from the norm; laidback charm and unbridled natural beauty await in this adjacent Pacific Northwest wonderland. Though watching the sun rise behind majestic mountain peaks may be familiar, only Portland affords the opportunity to glimpse these golden rays while devouring a bacon-topped doughnut from Blue Star. In PDX you can get lost in the archaic pages of Powell’s Rare Book Room and breathe in the mist of a thundering waterfall all in the same day. Though you can spend countless hours uncovering new experiences, or simply enjoying the fresh air, you may eventually (reluctantly) want to come inside. Thankfully, staying with Hilton makes this an easier decision. Hilton offers a selection of exemplary properties in the area that provide all the amenities and comforts you will need to get refreshed and ready for your next excursion.

Before you set out for a day of hiking, sustenance is a must. At the newly renovated Hilton Portland Downtown, take advantage of breakfast in HopCity Tavern & Market or peruse nearby Pioneer Courthouse Square’s delicious food carts—try Fried Egg I’m in Love, where savory breakfast sandwiches are best served with a side of musical puns. Across the street, trendy boutique hotel The Duniway is unapologetically Portland, named after the nineteenth century journalist and feminist Abigail Scott Duniway. This eccentric oasis is home to celebrity chef Chris Cosentino’s Jackrabbit, serving up an adventurous dining experience.

Any trip to the Rose City isn’t complete without an outing in the Columbia Gorge to see its plethora of waterfalls. Iconic in height and most easily appreciated is Multnomah Falls; the tallest cataract in Oregon is right off the highway. A short walk to the lower viewing platform rewards visitors with a jaw-dropping vista, which only gets better from the bridge just a few hundred feet up the path. Latourell, Wahkeena, and Bridal Veil Falls are other stunning opportunities to snap some photos. If a more physically demanding trek is what you had in mind, Angel’s Rest is a nearly five-mile round trip hike that climbs almost 1,500 feet to a rocky perch with panoramic river views.

Looking for a similarly close by yet scenic alternative? Many remote lakes, like Mirror or Trillium, dot the spurs of Mt. Hood, presenting spectacular open perspectives of the peak—and the chance to earn it with a little sweat. None of these destinations are more than an hour and a half drive from the city, so you’re never too far from Hilton and a sense of convenience.

Stretching your legs on trails doesn’t necessarily mean driving out of town. Portland is home to one of the country’s largest urban parks, and three Hilton properties—The Porter Portland, Curio Collection by HiltonCanopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District; and Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown—are suitably located for exploring this expansive forest preserve. Walk, bike, or hop on public transportation at one the many convenient stations around the hotels to make your way to the green tranquility of Forest Park—if you’re brave enough, seek out the Witch’s Castle, an abandoned stone house hidden deep in its midst.

Hilton Vancouver Washington is an excellent basecamp for any adventures across the river. Explore the revitalized waterfront space, where excellent dining and shopping options are plentiful, or go treasure hunting in the abundant antique emporiums. For those intrepid souls that just can’t shake the hiking bug, Beacon Rock or Dog Mountain offer memorable terrain and breathtaking scenery.

After all those miles, a little rest and relaxation is due.Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Washington Square sits adjacent to a sizable mall and tax-free shopping, something out-of-staters will appreciate. Even better, it’s a launch pad to the bountiful wineries and vineyards of the world-renowned Willamette Valley, where pinot, cabernet, and chardonnay will make your day memorable and tasty. Stoller Family Estate in the Dundee Hills is a great choice to kick back and put your feet up while sipping superb vintages. And when you return to your luxuriously appointed room, sip even more vino while lounging on your bed, courtesy of the attentive room service.

The possibilities for recreation and entertainment in Portland are endless, and the knowledgeable concierges at each Hilton property will help you fine tune your own perfect excursions and experiences.
