Southerners are picky about their sports. Fly balls, touchdowns, goals – they’re our lifeblood and our common tongue with our brethren. From the time our children are big enough to toddle we have them in pee wee football, soccer, baseball, cheerleading, and everything in-between. We love to grab a few brews and catch a game any day of the week. Learn more about Houston’s favorite local teams below.

Houston Astros

Grab your mitt and throw on your favorite Astros shirt, you’re headed to Minute Maid park to watch the 2017 World Series winning Houston Astros! Our very own baseball team has had a great run the last few years, and we’ve all got our fingers crossed that their winning streak continues. If you’re into behind-the-scenes tours, the Astros give one daily of the ballpark. Be prepared to see the Clubhouse, Dugouts, luxury seating boxes, Astros Hall of Fame and more depending on which tour you select. Check out tour tickets here and make sure to stay for a game.

Houston Texans

NRG Stadium lights up during football season to welcome our home team, the Houston Texans. Known for our super good looking players (hello, JJ Watt) and our run on HBO’s 2015 season of ‘Hard Knocks’, the Texans put on one heck of a party for each home game. Tailgating is common in the NRG parking lot, and Houstonians are so welcoming that you’re likely to make a few new friends before the game.! Inside the stadium, prepare for the party to continue with highly interactive crowd games, giveaways, and marriage proposals…seriously. Whichever game you attend, you can’t go wrong!

Houston Rockets

It’s time to ‘get your head in the game’ at the Toyota Center with the Houston Rockets. Basketball fans are notoriously serious about their preferred team, and Rockets fans are no different! Our fans are best described as the organized chaos behind some of the best talent in basketball (including multiple NBA Most Valuable Player, Player of the Week, and Player of the Month titles) that grace the Toyota Center court each season. One thing is for certain, if you’re looking for an electrifying good time where every seat in the house has a passionate interest in the team, a Rockets game is a sure bet.

Houston Dynamo

If you thought the Texans had the best tailgating, you haven’t seen soccer fans throw down! Our Houston Dynamo, aka the 2018 U.S. Open Cup winners, hang their jerseys at BBVA Compass Stadium, just a stone’s throw from downtown Houston. Tailgating begins the morning of a match and sometimes lasts until the wee hours of the morning the next day…talk about dedication! Dynamo fans are some of the most loyal that you’ll find – decked out in their scarves, jerseys, and face paint – and they stand, cheer, and dance the entire game. Even if you aren’t a soccer fan, you’re guaranteed to have a blast at a Dynamos game! If you’ve got kiddos, stop by ‘Diesel’s Corner presented by Hilton’ (the Dynamos’ kids’ corner) for an immersive soccer experience for the whole family.

Houston Dash

It’s not just the men’s soccer team that has all the fun in Houston, our women’s team – the Houston Dash – are some bad mamajamma’s that are not only incredible soccer players, but are also staple members of Houston’s charity community. Known for hosting charity events benefitting rebuilding projects, recycling campaigns, youth development, and more, the Dash players have big hearts for issues affecting our home town. Dash fans are equally loyal, and you can routinely find them boogying down the hallways of BBVA during a game and avidly waving their scarves in the stands. Make time to catch a game while you’re here!

Houston Sabercats

Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the United States, and Houston’s own team, the Sabercats, are clawing at their chance at victory. Currently in their second Major League Rugby season, the Sabercats are eagerly anticipating the completion of their $3.2 million rugby stadium in south Houston while currently playing at Dyer Stadium. With a fierce fan base behind them from every culture and creed, our boys are enjoying every minute of their ride. If you’re looking for a sporting event outside the norm, a rugby game is your ticket to international fun.

As you can see, Houston is serious about our sports! With talks of a hockey team moving in, and our bid already in for the 2026 World Cup, you can bet we aren’t planning on slowing down any time soon. For additional articles, offers, and ideas to inspire some Houston dreamin’, head on over to
