As the New Year rolls around, many of us make resolutions to move a little bit more and get active. Luckily, Houston has fabulous parks and outdoor activities ready and waiting to welcome you. Regardless of if you live in our vibrant city, or if you’re here traveling, make a point to take in some fresh air and sunshine year-round at the locations below!

Levy Park – 3801 Eastside St., 77098

Ooh, I love Levy Park! Houston really outdid itself when it erected this sanctuary of play. Complete with a water area , two dog parks (for both the big and little fur-iends), multiple playscapes, a community garden, a reading cart, an activity cart, rocking chairs, large foam leggos, mini putt-putt, and more, how could Levy NOT make our favorite parks list?! Yes, it’s free, and there’s tons of sponsored daily activities like yoga and family movie nights for you and yours to take advantage of.

Hermann Park – 6001 Fannin St., 77004

The first thing anyone says when they see Hermann Park is, “Wow, it’s so pretty!” Come on, I dare you to say something different…you can’t, it’s just instinctual! A true oasis in Houston’s city center with over 35 miles of connecting trail systems, playgrounds, gardens, and pavilions, cyclists and pedestrians have quite the outdoor paradise to covet. Meet friends for a leisurely stroll, bring your kiddos after a great day at nearby museums, or grab your bike and hit the trails.

Memorial Park – 6501 Memorial Dr., 77007

Whenever I think ‘Memorial Park’ I think sports, and for good reason as it houses facilities for golf, tennis, softball, swimming, track croquet, volleyball, skating, cycling, and running trails. Pick any weekend and there’s you’ll see tournaments and teams galore. Everyone who is anyone ‘inside the loop’ will tell you that Memorial Park is their go-to park hangout park. It’s routinely home to volunteer beautification efforts because city groups love and use it so much. If you’re looking for a park that Houstonian’s innately love, you’ve found your crown jewel.

Buffalo Bayou – Park anywhere along Shepherd Dr. near Allen Parkway

Running along Shepherd Dr. to Sabine St. between Allen Parkway and Memorial Dr. is the gorgeous Buffalo Bayou. Boasting concrete trails, picnic areas, bike & boat rentals, public art, a bat colony, and so much more, you can spend an entire day at the Bayou. If you’re a runner, running at dusk on the Bayou is absolutely breathtaking as the sky transitions into pinks and purples and reflects along the water.

The Woodlands Waterway – 31 Waterway Square, 77380

For those looking for more casual activity, the Woodlands Waterway has you covered. Catch a concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, paddle lazily on a paddleboat (the swan boats are adorable!), or cruise along the waterway on the riverboat taxi. Perfect for families, friends, or couples, be sure to make a day date to hang at the Waterway.
