It’s easy to think of Montreal as the ideal place to chill during the cold winter months. After all, you are surrounded by warm fondue restaurants, Nordic-style baths, and cozy fireplaces, and there always seems to be a cocktail available around every corner. But this is also a city perfect to unleash the Winter Warrior in all of us! Use this simple itinerary and you will be seeking snowy thrills in no time:

Day One:

You will never look at winter the same way once you experience the season in Montreal. Around every corner, the ice and snow is celebrated and revered, played in and pushed around, which makes it the perfect spot to enjoy the wild, white outdoors. Active families should start the day at Montreal’s “Village Mammouth”, a winter wonderland that features skating and tubing in the former Olympic Park. All equipment is available to rent on-site, and there are plenty of food vendors to keep you fueled. After all that fluffy stuff, you’ll need a warm up and a change of clothes at your hotel. In the evening, brave the cold and head to Igloofest, an extreme outdoor electronic dance music festival that attracts thousands of revelers to the Old Port area in January and February. Dancing the night away in -40 degree temperatures is a workout completely unique to Montreal! After all that activity, a quiet hot tub back at the hotel will be a great way to wind down before another big day ahead.

Day Two:

Day two is going to require a lot of energy, so make sure you enjoy a healthy breakfast before heading out. And baby, even though it’s cold outside, you’ll want to ditch the long johns; put on a swimsuit, and goofy foot it over to Maeva Surf, a tropical indoor surfing facility. You’ll need a couple of hours to get the hang of the flowboard, although an experienced instructor is on hand to make sure your wipeouts aren’t too spectacular. With a full restaurant and bar, you’ll be able to grab a bite before going to your next activity. While the morning was about working out the legs, the afternoon is all about the core: you’re going to need it to stay stable in a tunnel that generates wind speeds of up to 300 km/h (180mph). Together with an experienced instructor you will float, swoop, and swirl in a series of flights that will get your heart pumping.
