With the sun hot overhead, we stroll across the historic suspension bridge. Here, visitors and residents alike pause to take photos of the breathtaking skyline. Down a footpath lined with perennials to the lagoon we walk, stopping periodically to read the plaques on the tree specimens. Under a weeping willow, we take shelter from the heat as one of the iconic swan boats paddles by. This is The Boston Garden. One of our many destinations this weekend on our stay as we “Weekend Like a Local” with Hilton Hotels.

On Friday we checked into our hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside. Located just steps away from Carson Beach and a short walk to Fort Independence located on Castle Island. We took our time strolling the sandy shores, scouring the beach for sea glass and shells. We grabbed a bite at Sullivan’s and ate dinner at a picnic table while marveling at the planes coming and going from Logan International Airport.

On Saturday morning we ate breakfast at the hotel. A buffet of fresh fruits, eggs, bacon, and pancakes gave us the jump start we needed. Conveniently, public transportation is located just steps from the hotel. It’s the most convenient way to explore the city. For just $12 per adult, you can get a day pass for the “T” (subway) and children 11 and under ride free with a paying adult.

Our Weekend Like a Local Itinerary:

Boston Movie Mile with On Location Tours
If you’ve ever seen the movie Ted, Goodwill Hunting or The Departed and want to experience the filming locations first hand, this is the tour for you. For just $31 you can see the original Cheers restaurant that inspired the TV show, snap a pic of the historic state building featured in Amistad, or grab a coffee from the Dunkin Donuts filmed in The Town. Discounts available when you book your Weekend Like a Local stay with Hilton & DoubleTree.

Happy Place
After the Movie Mile we had the opportunity to visit Happy Place – an Instagrammers paradise. The pop-up exhibit (which is currently en route to Las Vegas) features larger than life opportunities to snap pics and have fun with the fam. Sit in a giant shoe, jump into an enormous ball pit, stand in a field of golden blooms or take turns throwing confetti in one of the largest confetti domes ever made!

Kings Bowling & Entertainment
For dinner, we went to Kings Bowling Back Bay. We bowled in the VIP section, a private four-lane area separate from the main bowling lounge. Our food was absolutely delicious! Baja Chicken Tacos are a must at King’s and they might just have the best french fries hands down. Make sure you order an Oreo Sundae! It’s large enough to share! The girls enjoyed playing arcade games while the adults shared some quality time and the best part was the location just steps from the MBTA Green Line.

Boston Duck Tours
On Sunday we took the hotel shuttle to the New England Aquarium for an Iconic Boston Duck Tour! We climbed aboard the Dorchester Dottie, a pink polka-dotted duck boat. Our ConDUCKtor was incredible, he went by the name Professor Quackenstein, he was hilarious, informative and even juggled for us! The tour was phenomenal, yielding incredible views of the city by way of land and water. If you’re going to Boston, a Duck Tour is a must!

It’s hard to believe that nearly a decade ago I lived in Boston. I was only 17 years old. My days consisted of going to school at Wentworth and working on Newbury Street at Life Is Good. I didn’t have a car so I zoomed around the city on public transit and my favorite place to eat was the food court at the Prudential Center. Looking back, it’s hard to remember anything more work and school. This weekend was a pleasant reminder of all that makes up the wonderful city of Boston.
