Let’s face it – a business trip to Trinidad without the chance to check out Trinidad’s beaches, food and culture is nothing short of a waste. After a day of meeting associates and talking business, post-meeting relaxation is most definitely in order. Trinidad beaches are well worth the visit, so make sure you don’t miss any of these.
While there are no beaches in the city of Port of Spain, there are plenty of sandy beaches along the island’s north coast, all just a short and scenic taxi ride away from Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre.
Picture a typical Caribbean beach and the image you conjure up might just resemble Maracas Beach.
This popular beach is adored by locals and tourists in equal measures but, with a 1.25 mile stretch of white sand, there’s more than enough room to find your own spot of paradise here any day of the week.
Known as Maracas’ little sister, Tyrico Beach offers calmer waters and less tourists than Maracas but boasts just as much beauty.
Tyrico is a little more protected than Maracas, making the surf a lot calmer on most days. As you watch the waves gently roll in, you’d be forgiven for being more than a little tempted to take a swim.
You won’t find any food stands here, nor beachfront cafes – just a secluded oasis of sand, gentle waves and green-covered hills. If you’re after a post-meeting feast, why not drop by Maracas Beach before continuing along the North Coast Road to enjoy your food in Tyrico’s serenity?
Las Cuevas Beach
Set within a horseshoe shaped bay, Las Cuevas is another quintessential Caribbean beach. The protection offered by the hills that stretch around the bay means the waves are calmer than those at Maracas, so jump in and experience Trinidad’s warm waters for yourself.
Las Cuevas is well known for its excellent facilities and for being a turtle nesting site. If you’re visiting Trinidad during nesting season, which spans from March to August, buy a permit from an authorised tour guide to witness this natural tradition. The sight of leatherback turtles scuttling across the sand is an unforgettable one.
Nestled at the edge of a rainforest, Blanchisseuse Beach is a haven of tranquility. It’s not unusual to visit the beach and find that you’re the only person there.
27 miles away from Hilton Trinidad, it takes a little longer to reach Blanchisseuse than Maracas and Tyrico but, if you’ve got the time, it’s well worth the drive. With it’s rural seclusion, it’s the perfect place to leave the day’s meetings behind and soak up the Caribbean sun.
If its coconut trees, deep blue waters and aura of tranquility weren’t enough, like Las Cuevas, Blanchisseuse is also a turtle nesting site.
Trinidad has so many beautiful beaches and, if you’re travelling to the island for business, the good news is that many are in easy reach of Port of Spain. So once your day’s meetings are over, call a taxi from Hilton Trinidad and let it take you to some of Trinidad’s best beaches.
