Metro improvement efforts are taking place summer 2019 but have no fear! We have the full run down with detailed explanations of the affected platforms and alternative modes of transportation to get you where you need to go.

From May 25 through September 8, 2019, Memorial Day Weekend through the weekend after Labor Day, Blue and Yellow Line stations south of Reagan National Airport will be closed due to Platform Improvement construction. Affected stations will include Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn Street, Eisenhower Avenue, Huntington, King St.-Old Town, and Braddock Road. WMATA will be performing platform repairs and other track work during this time.

Area Updates:

Crystal City: Crystal City will not be affected by the Summer 2019 Platform Improvement Program activities. Pentagon and Crystal City stations will remain open and functioning normally, with Reagan National Airport being the last stop open on the Blue and Yellow Lines. Seamless access to Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington, DC will remain available from both Crystal City and Pentagon City stations.

Embassy Suites Crystal City, located equidistant to the Crystal City and Pentagon City stations (8-10 minute walk from each), on both the Blue and Yellow Lines, is open for the summer and welcoming guests to experience its brand new $18 Million renovations. Work recently finished in March 2019 and the property is beyond excited to share its beautiful new product. Alexandria: Old Town, Alexandria will be offering several alternative transportation options during the summer to counter the Platform Improvement Program activities. These options allow guests and visitors to Old Town to enjoy the city in new and unique ways probably not considered before. Among these is the Water Taxi, connecting guests between Alexandria and the Wharf in D.C., with additional service available to Georgetown, Nationals Park, National Harbor and Mount Vernon. The Water Taxi allows for a different travel experience, highlighting the sights and beauty of the D.C. area. Others include rideshare services, taxi, VA Railway Express, Capital Bikeshare, Metrobus, Metroway, carshare, and a wide variety of parking options for your own car. Free shuttles will also be running to nearby open Metro stations, including Reagan National Airport, from the Alexandria stations. Learn more about these alternative travel options.
