A Gem on the Edge of the City

The freewheeling spirit of its founders lives on in Miami’s original neighborhood, Coconut Grove. Locals and visitors alike love Coconut Grove for its tropical greenery and bohemian, artistic vibe. After a day of shopping at CocoWalk’s boutiques, relax at a sidewalk café – or if you must head indoors, see a matinée at its 13-screen movie theater. Travel to a bygone era at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the lavish estate where millionaire bachelor businessman James Deering wintered in the early 1900s.

Like Deering, artists and writers found inspiration in “The Grove’s” lush foliage, tropical climate, and the turquoise water of Biscayne Bay. Tennessee Williams and Marjory Stoneman Douglas are among the luminaries who lived and created in the area. In February, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival brings more than 100,000 art lovers to the area to view the works of more than 300 globally recognized artists.
