Spend the summer exploring the great family-friendly things to do in Fort Lauderdale. Here are a few of our favorite kid-approved activities.

Snap some photos of hot pink flamingos.

Located just west of downtown Fort Lauderdale, Flamingo Gardens is a tropical oasis that’s home to 200 year-old oak trees, vibrant orchids and one of the largest free-flight aviaries in the country.

The 60-acre wildlife sanctuary and botanical garden features more than 85 native species including alligators, bobcats, panthers, otters, peacocks, and you guessed it: flamingos! Hop on a narrated tram ride and check out one of the educational wildlife encounter presentations.

Create a one-of-a-kind artistic masterpiece.

There is so much for kids to do at the Young at Art Museum in Davie. It’s a place where kids can stretch their imaginations by wandering through interactive art exhibits, as well as taking educational classes—everything photography and painting to ceramics and clay.

Strut along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.

What better way to spend a summer vacation then at the beach? Take the whole family for a walk or bike ride down the oceanfront Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. This prime 2.5-mile pedestrian-only sidewalk features incredible water views and is lined with plenty of cafes, shops and ice cream parlors. Stick around for the free weekly live music series. Plus, you can go for a dip in the salty sea whenever you need to cool off.

See thousands of beautiful butterflies.

Whether you’re searching for a black swallowtail or a cabbage white butterfly, you’re sure to spot them all at Butterfly World. Meander through the tree-laden pathways in the largest butterfly park in the world and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale wonderland. The park also hosts special family-friendly events.
