Marina del Rey is one of our favorite beach cities, so when Hilton invited us to come and stay at the Hotel MdR for a night to check out their Dine In/Dine Out promotion (20% off at the hotel’s restaurant & free breakfast!), we were down.

Just across the street from the boat-lined Marina (and a quick Lyft ride from LAX), the hotel is surrounded by everything from high-end restaurants and groceries to movie theaters and upscale shopping – all just a short walk away.

The Dine In/Dine Out package gets you 20% off at Barbianca Local Kitchen at the MdR, so we went to taste it for ourselves.

Barbianca is a versatile spot – sitting just outside the pool, the patio is inviting and, with heaters & a fire pit, as warm as you’d like.

Inside, the modern casual space can accommodate everything from cool professionals out for drinks and a bite to tourists in between excursions.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. The drinks were delicious – the Strawberry Lemonade was the kind of cocktail it’s hard to get enough of – and while the beer selection wasn’t huge, it was well-curated.

The menu features lots of Italian options, but our favorite was the lamb shank – tender, savory, perched on a bed of gravied mashed potatoes.

For dessert, the tiramisu was light & creamy and the espresso hit the spot.

The room was tidy and crisply appointed, with a great view from the balcony of the marina and the pool below. The fluffy white comforters have that light, cloud-like feel and we had a good, comfortable night’s sleep.

The Dine In/Dine Out package also got you free breakfast at the buffet in the morning and what is more Southern California than brunching poolside?

If you’re coming to L.A., The Hotel MdR has a great, convenient little setup and taking advantage of great offers like the Dine In/Dine Out package at Barbianca is a tasty way to welcome yourself to one of the world’s foodie capitals.
