Metro Atlantans Celebrate the 4th of July with a Bang!
Don’t you love the Fourth of July? Backyard barbecues, belly flops in the pool and then watching fireworks. There are several places around metro Atlanta to salute the good ole USA, starting with the AJC Peachtree Road Race, a 10K course from Buckhead to Piedmont Park. Running the race (or cheering from the sides) is truly an Atlanta tradition.
Perhaps the biggest and most star-studded celebration will be Centennial Olympic Park’s free party that includes live music and the Southeast’s largest fireworks display. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority and Lenox Square will host the event and features such entertainment stars as Bobby Brown, Ann Nesby and Kristian Bush (of Sugarland).
Stone Mountain Park invites guests to spend the day experiencing the park’s indoor and outdoor activities such as the treetop obstacle course and scenic railroad tour and then watch the laser show before being wowed with an over-the-top patriotic fireworks display. All-Attraction Day Pass: $31.95 for adults: $29.95 children ages 3-11.
Another family-friendly place to spend the day is Six Flags Over Georgia with its July 4th Fest. To honor the occasion, Six Flags is allowing early morning access to several rides (when you bring an unopened can of a Coca-Cola product to the front gate). Enjoy the rides, dance to live DJ music with a dance floor covered in suds or bubbles; there’s also an all-American dance party at the Coke Cool Zone. But, of course, the real star will be fireworks. Day passes start at $51.99.
Fourth in the Park will feature a parade, arts & crafts, food, carnival games and live music at the Marietta Square, followed by fireworks. East Point goes all out with its Salute to the Red, White and Blue with a food court, music and fireworks near City Hall.
Other celebrations with fireworks include: Barbecue & Bluegrass on the grounds of Barrington Hall in Roswell, Sparkle in the Park in Lilburn, Firework Extravaganza at Roswell High School, 4th of July Celebration at Wills Park in Alpharetta, Spar Spangled Fourth at Mall of Georgia, Sandy Springs Stars and Stripes Celebration on the lawn at Concourse Corporate Center.
