There is a lot to love about Atlanta, especially in the summer. Two of our favorite things are ice cream (fine, that’s a year-round obsession, but it’s better in the hot weather) and tomatoes. There is nothing more delicious than ripe, juicy, just-picked tomatoes. Luckily, there are two festivals that celebrate ice cream and tomatoes in July.

Fresh-off-the-vine tomatoes are perfect for soups, sandwiches, salads — and frankly — just by itself with the juices running down your face when you bite into it. So if you’re a fan of tomatoes (and who isn’t?) go to the 11th annual Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival July 14 from 11 to 5 p.m. at the Westside Provisions District (1198 Howell Mill Rd., Atlanta, 30318). Hosted by celebrity chef Ford Fry (St. Cecilia, King + Duke, the Optimist and JCT Kitchen, among other restaurants), the festival features tomato-based treats from more than 60 of the South’s top chefs and mixologists as well as a live auction and music from the Spazmatics and Fry’s band, The Foo’d Fighters. Proceeds benefit Georgia Organics, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial help for those in the hospitality industry. General Admission: $75; Lexus VIP: $175; Ford Fry’s Tex-Mex Cookbook Package: $205. www.killertomatofest.com

We all scream for ice cream and the best place to do that is July 27 at the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival at Piedmont Park at 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive. Founded in 2010 as a way for families to have fun, the star of the festival is ice cream — all kinds and lots of it — but there are also a variety of health and wellness activities, fitness routines, food and non-food vendors, live music and a 5k Fight Cancer Walk. Enjoy zumba, yoga, tai chi, line dancing, hula hoop competitions, double ruth routines, jump rope fun, frisbee toss as you indulge in all sorts of ice cream, gelato, crushed is and sherbets. Want to show how much you really love ice cream? Enter the ice cream eating competition! There is one for children and adults. Is there anything that can make this ice cream festival even better? Well, yes. It’s free! https://www.atlantaicecreamfestival.com
