Even though the new year comes every year, 2019 really feels like it snuck up on us this time, doesn’t it? Don’t let that surprise throw you off, though, because we are here to help you start the year off strong and maintain those new year exercise resolutions.

 

  1. Sweat Away The Stress of 2018 With Yoga
    There are so many places where you can go to find great free yoga classes, but once you’re ready to commit, Flow Yoga Center is the place to go. With over 80 classes a week, there is something to fit into your schedule and start the year with a clear and focused mind.

  2. Join a Running Club
    Pacers’ Social Running Club is a great way to build camaraderie and get a free guided run on nearly every day of the week. With a consistently set schedule, you can put these on your calendar weeks in advance for a constant reminder to get up and run.

  3. Find a Walking Trail
    Is running a little too fast for you? Not a problem, just find the nearest branch of the Anacostia River Trails networks and take a walk – you’ll get your 10,000 steps in, easy. The network has over 20 miles of trails along the Anacostia river so you can either stick with a familiar route or almost always find a new path to go on.

  4. Climb a Mountain
    You don’t even need to dig out the carabiners and rope to scale Sugarloaf mountain, it’s pretty tiny. Luckily, you still get a great view at the top. There are also a bunch of great trails that you can take together to create the perfect length hike for your fitness level.

  5. Looking to do EVERYTHING?
    For those who are fully committed to working out every method way – ice skating, rock climbing, swimming, and more, look no further than The St. James complex in Springfield, VA. It has everything you could ever need for the perfect workout and trust me, it’s an absolute blast to just go explore.

  6. Curling at the Wharf
    Who needs curling up with a good book, when you can curl up with a cold stone? You know you want to. What, you don’t think that it counts as exercising? Well if the olympics count it as a sport, that’s good enough for me! This weekly event runs on Mondays through the end of January, which gives you plenty of time to get your broom out and sweep your way to a fitter you.

  7. Indoor Rowing
    Did you know that rowing is truly a full body workout? Seriously, you work everything – arms, legs, back, abs. DC Row gives you all the exercise benefits of joining a crew team without the frigid temperatures and the chance of falling into the Anacostia.   8. Moshfit at Slash Run
    Working out in a hair-metal burger bar might seem a bit odd, but Moshfit at Slash Run is the best workout on this list to let out your inner 80s-diva. This month’s 45 minute session is nothing but 80s aerobics. You’re welcome.

  9. Bike with SoulCycle
    There’s a reason SoulCycle is one of the hottest exercise classes in the district – it’s a great workout! Utilizing all the cardio exercise of a normal spin class with additional weights to build strength, these classes are intense and definitely worth the hype.

  10. Dance at 305 Fitness
    Looking for that sweaty-at-the-club experience, but at six in the morning? Perfect, let me introduce you to 305 fitness, the best workout in D.C. with a live DJ and light show. Full of dancing, good music, and sweat, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more fun way to dance yourself fit.

  11. Outdoor Bike With Bike Rack
    If you are wanting to enjoy the fresh Winter air, join Bike Rack for their easy rides on Saturdays or their intermediate rides on Sundays. Get your helmet out and enjoy a group ride through the district.

  12. Boxing
    Are you entering into 2019 with a ton of pent up frustration and the desire to get fit? Look no further than Nuboxx in NoMa – a modern take on the boxing club. Nuboxx aims to build you in the ideal image of a boxer – holistically fit, both physically and mentally.
