San Diego's LGBT Central Hub

Just a few miles north of downtown, Hillcrest stands out as a vibrant uptown neighborhood filled with locally owned businesses, including a growing restaurant and bar scene. Check out University Avenue, lined with restaurants serving global cuisines like Vietnamese, Himalayan, and Thai.

Hillcrest’s monumental rainbow flag on the east end serves as a community gathering point for celebrations and special events. It also serves as the starting point for the nation’s third largest LGBT Pride parade each June. Pride Plaza also hosts the weekly Hillcrest Farmers’ Market, featuring over 175 vendors every Sunday with fresh produce, seasonal fruits, arts, and crafts.

South of Hillcrest is Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in North America, boasting 17 museums and performing arts venues. Walk down El Prado, a long, wide promenade running through the park’s center, and take in the unique buildings and architecture in the picturesque park. Jump from museum to museum, and visit the famous San Diego Zoo, a major attraction to many locals and visitors alike.
